The curved strings slightly reduce in width to the quarter landing, where the stairs curve both ways to the galleried landing on all four sides of the stairwell. Where the stairs meet the landing the continuous handrail sweeps round, enhancing the lines of the stair. Each volute stands above the curtail step with its overall width at the base exceeding 2 metres.
